Respecting Nature
A sustainable ‘glamping & spa resort’ concept
Of course, we love to travel to faraway places and eat fruit from southern climes. But with this in mind, we are also very conscious that we give back and do what we can to protect nature and the general environment.
The eco cabins we have chosen for our resort are handcrafted using natural & sustainable materials and their energy-efficient designs include solar energy heating & highly efficient natural insulation.
Our 18th century vernacular mountain cottage, a piece of local heritage, was once at threat of demolition - we fell in love with it & set about sensitively restoring the little cottage - using traditional heritage building techniques including natural sheep wool insulation, thatch roofing & lime rendering. As well as the installation of an innovative energy-efficient underfloor heating system incorporating recycled glass foam.
Our hot tubs & saunas are heated by sustainably sourced firewood and their design size ensures maximum energy efficiency.
Waste management includes no single-use plastics across the resort, separating waste for recycling & composting, and avoiding one-way disposables etc. where possible.
No harmful Chemicals - Kind to your Skin & the Environment:
Throughout our resort we use officially certified organic soaps by the Dr. Bonner brand which are kind to your skin and the environment. We don’t use harsh chemicals such as chlorine in our hot tubs and instead change water via the natural springs on our estate. Also, outside on the estate we strictly avoid using insecticides & pesticides, so we are kind to nature too.
Biodiversity & Conservation:
Nature comes 1st - we let nature take its natural course on the estate and do our best not to disturb its everyday but instead let it thrive. As custodians we have established numerous wildlife ponds, native hedgerows, bee hotels & wildflower meadows across the estate so more little visitors hopefully stop-by, and we carefully manage the deer on the estate to avoid overgrazing.
And just up the valley we have started a pioneering rewilding project where we have allowed a section of the mountain to naturally regenerate alongside native tree saplings we have planted & a rich carbon-storing Irish peatland bog.
